(or Brother, ugh!) is the newest TikTok craze that allows users to voice their opinions about repulsive things. Where did it originate, though? Let's discuss what and why this is so repulsive.

Where Does "Ew Brother Ew!" Come From?

The quote is taken from a lengthy sermon that Australian Islamic cleric Mohammed Hoblos gave and uploaded to YouTube in 2019. The sermon is almost over when something happens. "Are You a Man?! " was the title of the sermon. Very Powerful Speech !"


The statement is used in the film in reference to certain Muslims who, according to Hoblos, profess to believe in the Prophet but refuse to follow his sunna, customs, and practices. Following their lead, Hoblos claims that these believers could reply to the tenets and practice of their religion with the words "Ew, brother, ew! What is that?





How Did "Ew, Brother, Ew!" Become A Meme?

The video was taken out of context, as is the case with many memes, which is why more people have seen these few seconds than any other portion of the video.

It appears that a video of an NFL player posted on Twitter / X in early January 2024 is when "Ew, brother, ew!" initially became popular as a meme. By the end of the month, the video—along with the music it was paired with—was widely circulated on TikTok as a reaction film showing people's reactions to whatever they found repulsive or believed others may find repulsive.


It's possible that one thing that attracts people to the video is the dramatic delivery of Hoblos and his long pauses for emphasis. It might also be the pronunciation of "Ew," which is both very Australian and very exaggerated.
